for W with love

Now that I am gone,
remember me with smiles and laughter.
And if you need to cry,
cry with your brother or sister
who walks in grief beside you.
And when you need me,
put your arms around anyone
and give to them what you need to give to me.
There are so many who need so much.
I want to leave you something --
something much better than words or sounds.
Look for me in the people I've known
or helped in some special way.
Let me live in your heart
as well as in your mind.
You can love me most
by letting your love reach out to our loved ones,
by embracing them and living in their love.
Love does not die, people do.
So, when all that's left of me is love,
give me away as best you can.

no ordinary moments

My friend Bill wrote a great blog this week entitled "There are no ordinary moments." More than simply carpe diem, it was about embracing the everyday mundane moments that go by unnoticed and unrecognized. Not just taking things for granted, but not being open to the possibility that tedious, everyday tasks can be full of joy. Taking this to heart, I started my Saturday morning waiting for joy.

It didn't come with 6 am discovery of an unflushed toilet, but the sound of the tea kettle about to hiss and the smell of jasmine green tea was lovely. I giggled with strangers as we stretched with a new coach who had an aerobic routine unlike anything we had ever done. I ran with a new friend who came up with something to talk about each mile. A red fox crossed our path and we stopped to ooh and ahh. I noted the blue powerade craig made was the perfect concoction (hard to do in those huge barrels). On the way home I saw graffiti that said "neat." Wow! It hit me. Life is neat. I thought of Bill and his blog.

Then on the drive to breakfast with Carolyn I heard the song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEMyZQofUsc This is what played when we danced with Kate after the Disney marathon...big group hug..joy, joy, joy. I think I will remember that intense feeling every time I hear the song.

So the weekend continued with seeing joy. A squeeze of my hand, a magazine in the mail, a warm bath, a soft towel, fresh asparagus. On Sunday we bowled with friends and then went to the honored hero party for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society. It was not dificult to see joy when a throng of people who are struggling with blood cancer stands up before you to thank you. Or when your son lets someone win at air hockey "just this time, until she feels better."

The photo is of a stand of trees in Lullwater park. I stood under them as they knocked together in the wind. Like big wind chimes, only natural. neat.

Last night we watched the lunar eclipse...a big treat for my boys because they normally go to bed at 8. Loved it when Ben looked up and noted that Grandpa-guy was looking at the same moon as he, It was lovely.

sweet boys

as I charged into Will's room to do an intensive clean up this morning (after a long lecture last night about keeping things clean, respect, yada yada)I encountered this on the floor. While the room was a nightmare, (I am not even going to go into what I found in the closet) this sight was so sweet and innocent. That's Hop-Hop and Melvin, nestled in their makeshift bed. Love those sweet boys.

Alaska!

holy cow, I am going to do it again. Kate was chosen as Georgia's honored hero for the Leukemia Lymphoma Society and I jumped back in with 2 feet. I ran with the team this Saturday bright and early...an easy 6 miles I would like to say, but it kind of hurt after not running since Disney. So, mark your calendars and get out your check books (cmon, it's a brand new tax year) cause I am going to Anchorage Alaska in June for the Mayor's Midnight Run and I am running again with my friend, Kate's mom, Carolyn. I say running with, but really I will be running behind her. Seriously, she is like a superhero.

This is my favorite photo from the race-a big hug from sweet Kate. See my Donald Duck bling. You know you want to borrow it. I will let you if you click on my TNT web page and put in some cash. I am quite scared of the fundraising again.
